Leaves are alternate, oblong, chartaceous, entire on the margin.

The petiole is 2-10 mm long with short hairs.

White to rose flowers open in April before leaves with fragrance.

This species is restricted within a narrow area in central Japan.

But it is widely planted for garden tree and street tree.
