Leaves are opposite, nearly membranous, ovate, acute at the apex, coarsely mucronate serrate on the margin.
Lateral nervea are 3-9 pairs, parallel, terminating into marginal serration.
Petioles are 6-8 mm long, reddish, sulcate above.
Pinkish flowers open on new shoots with leaves in April to May.
Compressed drupes ripen to red in October.
It grows on dry hills and mountains in the cool to warm temperate zone.
The wood is used for handles of instruments. It is planted for garden trees.
