Leaves are alternate, chartaceous, acute at the apex, irregularly serrate or double serrate on the margin.

Petioles are tomentose.

Flowers open in May in terminal 2-5 flowered corymbs.

It grows in the cool temperate zone, but not prevailing.

The wood is used for utensils, furnitures. The bark yields a yellow dye.
