Acanthopanax divaricatus
Leaves are alternate, digitate, palmately compound with 5 leaflets, sessile or short-stalked, obovate-oblong, acute or short-acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, simply or doubly serrate with somewhat incurved serrations.
The petiole are 3-9cm long, sometimes prickly.
Flowers in July to August,
Fruits ripening black in September to October.
This shrub, endemic to Japan, has rather wide range in the temperate zone. It prefers sunny and moist sites as along streams on the plateau.
The stem and fruits are used for a medicine.
