Leaves are alternate, acuminate at the base, sparsely serrulate. Venation is distinctly impressed.
Petioles are silky and deeply sucate.
Big white flowers open solitary in the axils of new shoots in June to July.
It grows on the deep mountains of the cool temperate zone.
It is called Sharanoki.
The wood is used for alcove posts, utensils, carvings, fuels.
