Leaves are opposite, covered on both surfaces with dense white hairs when unfolding, in adult deep green and glossy above, more or less glaucous beneath.

mostly oblanceolate, coriaceous, abruptly acuminate, entire or with few coarse short-awned teeth.

White flowers in June to July. in terminal flat cymes without involucres.

Fruits, drupe-like, maturing purplish black in October.

This dogwood is widespread from Japan to the Himalayas.

The wood is used for fuels and chacoal.
