Leaves are opposite, coriaceous, broadly obovate, abruptly acute at the apex, undulately and shallowlly toothed on the margin, deep green and lustrous above, pale green and minutely glandular-dotted beneath.
Numerous small white flowers open on new short shoots in March to April.
This tree grows near the coast in the warm temperate zone to the subtropical zone.
The wood is used for handles of utensils, wooden pegs. The fruits are edible. It is planted in gardens.
