Leaves are alternate on the long shoots, 3-5 crowded on the dwart shoots, serrulate with glandular tips on the margin.
Flowers in May to June. Drupes globose, maturing red in October, containing 4-5 stones.
It grows on the sunny ridges in the warm temperate zone.
The wood is white and used for mosaic works, utensils, turneries, match-sticks. Young leaves have been eaten and leaves are used for tee.
